Rockers VS. Gliders

Rocking chairs and gliders have similarities in functionality, but are actually quite different stylistically in their design. If you don't have a traditional styled rocking chair - your basic wood indoor rocking chair - in mind, then you may want to take a look at our gliders which might end up being the perfect fit for what you are looking for.

Rocking Chairs come in multiple furniture styles and constructions ranging from traditional to modern designs made of anything from teak to iron. A rocking chair sits on two curved supports which allow for the angled rocking motion. A rocking chair's motion is a natural relaxant that is calming and comfortable. We offer single rocking chairs as well as double rocking chairs, or rocking chair benches.
Glider
Glider
Glider Chairs while similar to a rocking chair actually convey a completely different motion. A glider generally sits on flat legs or peg type legs similar to a chair. The motion of a glider, due to how it sits on the floor and its design mechanics, is more of a fluid front to back motion rather than an angled front to back motion. Gliders are often parts of outdoor furniture groups, but we also offer upholstered gliders and ottoman gliders for any indoor setting! We also have single, double, and even triple gliders that are designed like sofas!

Indoor VS. Outdoor Construction

Indoor and outdoor rocking chairs, and furniture in general, are essentially made of different materials and finishes, which is what helps to differentiate between the two. Traditional rocking chairs made of Teak, Shorea, Cyprus and Pine are durable outdoor woods that can also be quite appealing when used indoors; however, indoor rocking chairs should never be used outdoors, atleast not for extended periods of time and never left out overnight. A very common home decorating theme today is to have furniture that blends the indoors with the outdoors, therefore it might be in your interest to browse our outdoor rocking chairs because one of them may just perfectly fit your indoor setting as well!

Indoor Rocking Chairs are often treated with a glossy finish that gives them a sleek look. While they are constructed of similar materials as outdoor rocking chairs, it is often the finish which keeps them to indoor use only. Occasionally the rocking chair may be constructed of a soft wood which would not be able to withstand the elements. It is these types of chairs which are used mostly as home accents and general indoor seating rocking chairs.

Outdoor Rocking Chairs are a great bargain as many will look good both indoors and outdoors if you have the seating space in your home for it. Outdoor rocking chairs are constructed most often of teak, various hardwoods (cyprus, pine, etc.), iron, or all-weather wicker. These materials are able to withstand the harshest weather and last for a long time. Outdoor wooden chairs also most often use woods that are naturally insect and rot repellent such as teak and pine!

Rocking Chair Care

Caring for your rocking chair is similar to caring for any other piece of furniture.
  • Indoor Wood/Wicker Rocking Chairs and Gliders can be cleaned with any mild wood cleaning/polishing spray or solution unless otherwise directed by the manufacturer.
  • Indoor Upholstered Rocking Chairs and Gliders should be vaccuumed to remove dust and any surface debris. For stains and deeper cleaning, mild detergents or stain removers can be used unless otherwise directed by the manufacturer.
  • Outdoor Wood/Wicker Rocking Chairs can be cleaned using water and a mild detergent or soap unless otherwise directed by the manufacturer.
  • Teak Rocking Chairs and Gliders are quite different in their properties from any other material. Aside from being the most durable outdoor wood furniture material, teak weathers into a beautiful natural gray patina. Teak can not be finished due to the fact that it is a non-porous, oily wood. Some people prefer the unfinished, original wood tone rather than the weathered look. Teak polish can be used to maintain the upkeep of the original wood and prevent the gray patina from developing should you so desire.
